What is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy takes place between an individual and a trained mental health professional such as a clinical psychologist. Many people come to therapy to address their mental well-being, loss or life transitions, worries about the future or their loved ones, and difficulties with boundaries and communication. While the aim of treatment can be a wide range of issues, your therapist will help you identify your goals, and the purpose remains to increase someone’s sense of well-being, solve obstacles and conflicts, and develop coping skills to manage difficult emotions and symptoms.
At MindWell, we have a team of clinical psychologists which will help identify your ideal match in a therapist. Our intake coordinator will answer your questions related to therapy and guide you through the process of meeting with a therapist.
Individual therapy is the gold standard for treating psychological difficulties such as depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorders and PTSD. Therapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication is useful in managing your symptoms and removing obstacles to living a healthier, happier life.
Individual therapy lasts for 50 minutes and takes place on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. The average course of therapy is 3 months. However, some individuals prefer to come in for fewer sessions to work on coping skills while others remain for longer in order to focus on working through several issues and engage in personal growth.
