Dr Tesini M. Paramannantha Veloo
Consultant Psychiatrist | Senior Lecturer | Mental Health & Neurodiversity Specialist
Who am I?
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer with a passion for helping people understand themselves, navigate difficult periods in life and move towards healthier, more fulfilling lives.
My clinical work spans adult and child psychiatry, with particular interests in ADHD, autism and neurodiversity, mood and anxiety disorders, women’s mental health, perinatal and reproductive mental health, psychosexual health as well as relationship difficulties. I also work with individuals experiencing stress, burnout, major life transitions and challenges in balancing their personal, family and professional lives.
I believe that mental health care should be personal, respectful and free from judgement. Every person comes with a different story, personality, family background, strengths and challenges. Rather than simply treating a diagnosis, I believe in understanding the individual behind the symptoms and the circumstances that may be contributing to their difficulties.
My approach combines psychiatric assessment, evidence-based treatment, psychotherapy and where appropriate, family or couples-based interventions. I have additional training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Couples Therapy and Intergenerational Couples Therapy, allowing me to work with both individual concerns and the relationships and systems surrounding them.
A significant part of my work is centred on neurodiversity. I have a particular interest in recognising ADHD and autism across different stages of life, including presentations that may have been overlooked or misunderstood for many years. I believe that understanding neurodiversity can help individuals and families move away from blame and towards greater self-understanding, acceptance and practical support.
I also have a strong interest in women’s mental health, including the psychological challenges associated with pregnancy, the postpartum period, reproductive transitions and the changing stages of adulthood.
Beyond clinical practice, I am actively involved in medical education, research, corporate mental health and public mental health advocacy. I have worked with professional and corporate organisations on workplace mental health, stress, burnout, stigma and wellbeing, and have delivered mental health education across professional and community platforms.
I am also regularly involved in public mental health conversations through national television, mainstream media, professional talks and community outreach, particularly in the areas of mental health, autism, neurodiversity and women’s mental health.
Whether you are struggling with your mental health, trying to understand yourself or your child, navigating a relationship, facing a major life transition, or simply feeling that something in your life needs to change, my aim is to provide a space where you can feel heard, understood and supported without judgement.
